JURORS WERE told by a judge at the High Court in Livingston yesterday that they had to decide whether the Crown had proved Stewart Blackburn murdered his girlfriend Jessica McCagh by setting her on fire at his home in Arbroath in the early hours of April 25.

Teenager is Found Guilty of ‘Evil and Barbaric Murder’

ARBROATH MAN Stewart Blackburn was found unanimously guilty by a jury at the High Court in Livingston yesterday of the “evil and barbaric murder” of his 17-year-old girlfriend. Jurors were out for an hour and 45 minutes before returning unanimous guilty verdicts on all the remaining charges faced by Stewart Blackburn (18).

 

Mobile Unit a ‘Wonderful Facility’

A £100,000 MOBILE unit allowing youth workers to operate from the heart of areas blighted by substance abuse will be a “wonderful facility” for Dundee, it was claimed last night. Inspector Bryan Knight spoke after funding for the “mobile substance misuse diversionary facility” had been earmarked by the Dundee Partnership management committee.

STANDING IN front of a sheriff, two weeks after the fire which killed his girlfriend, the Arbroath man accused of her murder said it was an “accident.” Judicially examined before Sheriff Kevin Veal at Forfar on the morning of May 6, the charge of murdering Jessica McCagh was put to Stewart Blackburn and he replied, “Denied.”
