Blackness Road Fire Station (Wholetime)

Blackness Fire Station was opened on the 14th May 1970 by the RT Hon The earl of Dalhousie GBE, HC, LLD. The station is situated on Blackness Road and covers three council wards.

Blackness station has a rescue pump, a water tender ladder and an aerial lift platform and is staffed by 60 full time firefighters broken down into 4 watches.

In addition to providing fire cover, the staff under-take a wide range of Community Safety activities that are aimed at preventing deaths and injuries at fires and work and educating the public.

All watch’s work closely with other emergency services, youth groups, schools and a variety of other partners.

The Geographical area served by Blackness is both urban and rural.
 
The main features include the only Airport, a main line train station and a busy harbour. The largest teaching hospital in the area is also included and two centrally located universities mean that a large student population reside and study in the city centre. This is topped off with a large central shopping area which has two large and expanding shopping malls at its heart.

A large residential area reflecting a wide variety of social economic groups residing within individual neighbourhoods create a cosmopolitan mix both day and night.

The long term regeneration of the city centre will continue to provide a varied environment for many years in the future.

The rural area covered by the station includes a large farming community and scientific research facility.

The area is expanding with numerous small towns and villages which continue to grow as the city draws in workers from further and further a field due to the continuing improvements in the transport infrastructure.
