


Blairgowrie Fire Station (Retained)
Built in 1956, Blairgowrie Fire Station is located at the junction of West George Street and Lochy Street to the West side of Blairgowrie. The station replaced the previous one which was an old building belonging to the town council in Upper John Street. The station was officially opened on 2nd May 1958 by Bailie S. B. Edwards, a former Firemaster and local representative of Perth and Kinross Joint Fire Committee.
The Fire Station has two front line appliances, a fully equipped Rescue Pump and a Water Tender Ladder which are staffed by personnel employed on the retained duty system. The current establishment for the station is a Watch Manager, 3 x Crew Managers and 16 firefighters with the majority working and living in the community of Blairgowrie. The station personnel are the main asset and in addition to responding to emergencies they undertake a range of Community Safety activities that are primarily aimed at preventing deaths and injuries in fires.
The geographical area served by Blairgowrie is both urban and rural. The urban area covers the town of Blairgowire/ Rattray which contains a small sized shopping area, medium sized residential areas and medium sized industrial areas. The rural area covered by the station includes a large farming community and numerous small villages. The population of Blairgowrie is around eight thousand.
