Balmossie Fire Station (Wholetime/Retained)
Opened in December 1982 to replace the old fire station in Brown Street Broughty Ferry, Balmossie Fire Station is located on North Balmossie Street bordering Monifieth on the east side of the City of Dundee. The council wards encompassed within its boundaries are Barnhill, Balgillo, Broughty Ferry, West Ferry, Monifieth West and Monifieth Central.
The station has two front line appliances and one support appliance. The station is crewed 24 hours seven days a week by both a full time fire crew and a crew on the retained duty system. The station personnel are our main asset and in addition to responding to emergencies they undertake a range of Community Safety activities that are primarily aimed at preventing deaths and injuries in fires. Personnel at Balmossie also provide via the support appliance, a Breathing Apparatus Support Unit and an Operational Support Unit to anywhere in Tayside upon request.
The geographical area served by Balmossie Fire Station is both urban and rural. The urban area includes the Burghs of Broughty Ferry and Monifieth each of which contains a medium sized shopping area and large residential areas. There is a great deal of residential development ongoing in the station area further expanding the established estates and creating new ones. The rural area covered by the station includes a large farming community and numerous small villages.
