Forfar Fire Station

Forfar Fire Station (Retained)

The fire station at Forfar was opened on the 25 of August 1997 by Mrs Francis E Duncan, JP Provost of Angus.

Up until November 2006 the station operated with 2 WRL's and 1 Rescue unit, then on the 23 November 2006, the station received a new state of the art Rescue pump.  This allowed Tayside Fire and Rescue to reduce its operational fleet at Forfar to 1 Rescue Pump and 1 Water Tender Ladder whilst at the same time increasing its firefighting and rescue capabilities.

The station currently has an establishment of 21; this consists of 1 Watch Manager who is supported by 4 Crew Managers and 16 firefighters.  The station attends between 200 - 300 fire calls per year, dealing with a large variety of different incidents.  Also as part of the Proactive policy of Tayside Fire and Rescue, firefighters regularly undertake Community Fire Safety initiatives such as Home Fire Safety Checks.

The station covers the whole of Forfar and approximately seven surrounding villages.  Forfar has a variety of risks in its area ranging from the "Forfar Loch to "Don and Low" which is a large material manufacturer.  Other risks are "Superfine" which has bulk storage of chemicals and there is also a high school, a hospital, a number of nursing homes and the "Gas Compressor Station" on Forestmuir Road.
