Kirriemuir Fire Station

Kirriemuir Fire Station (Retained)

Kirriemuir fire station is situated in the towns Glengate and was opened in 1952 originally to be the headquarters of the Angus fire brigade.  It covers a vast area which includes, as well as the town itself, most of the Angus glens.  The town of Kirriemuir itself has a population of approximately 6000 people.

The station is staffed by a total of 16 personnel consisting of a Watch Manager, 3 Crew Managers and 12 firefighters who currently work the retained duty system to provide fire and rescue cover.  To maintain the efficiency and high standards of both the personnel and the equipment all personnel are required to attend once a week for training and twice a month to carry out maintenance of the appliances and equipment.

The station itself has recently undergone a complete refurbishment and is now the host of a new rescue pump which provides additional capabilities as well as a water tender ladder.  The personnel on the station carry out various duties which involve working with the community to prevent incidents from occurring whilst maintaining a full reactive fire and rescue service.

Kirriemuir itself is known in Angus as the gateway to the glens and is surrounded by some of the most beautiful countryside in Scotland. It is the birthplace of J. M. Barrie, who created the character Peter Pan, and having the well known Camera Obscura in the town itself makes it an attraction for tourists from all over the world.
