Tayside Fire and Rescue seeks to provide the highest standard of fire safety and emergency response services to all the communities it serves.

RECRUITMENT PROCESS
Vacancies
Vacancies are widely advertised throughout the Tayside area. A fundamental recruitment objective for the Fire and Rescue Service is to ensure that stereotypes, relating to the role of a Firefighter, are challenged. This will ensure that under-represented groups, such as people with disabilities, women and people from minority ethnic backgrounds are given as much opportunity to apply for this worthwhile and rewarding career.
Entry Procedures
At the commencement of each recruitment cycle Tayside Fire and Rescue will forecast the number of vacancies anticipated to be filled over the following eighteen months to two years.

Multi-Stage Fitness Test
As part of the selection process you will be required to satisfy Tayside Fire and Rescue that you are fit enough to undertake the Trainee Firefighter course and beyond that in your future career.
The test requires you to run back and forth between two lines 20 metres apart; maintaining a pace set by an audio tape or CD player. The pace increases at one minute intervals throughout the test. The test finishes if you do not keep pace with the tape or you reach a pre-determined target of 9.6.
Initial Interview
This will be conducted by two members of Tayside Fire and Rescue and will last about 30 minutes. During this interview they will verify the details in your application form and assess your knowledge of Tayside Fire and Rescue, ambition and suitability to become a Firefighter. They will also assess your ability to communicate effectively, and your general attitude.
Final Interview
Applicants who successfully progress through the above stages will attend a final interview of approximately 30 minutes duration conducted by three senior managers. During this interview you will be assessed on your overall ability to communicate effectively, your general awareness of Fire Service issues and your aptitude for initial training and for a career in the Fire and Rescue Service.

Applicants will be required to complete a medical questionnaire and undergo a full examination prior to employment.
Two References will also be required as well as a Disclosure Scotland Check .
Duty Systems
Firefighters attend for duty on two day shifts, (0800 hours to 1800 hours) and two night shifts (1800 hours to 0800 hours). This is followed by four days rota leave.
The options of part time working and job share are available. Please specify on your application form if you are interested in applying under either of these working patterns.
